Hyundai ix25 spied Testting in India and China

Looks like the next big thing from the Korean major after the Elite i20 launch is the Hyundai's débutante compact SUV – ix25. Test mule has been spotted in India and much to a surprise it seems like Hyundai is testing it alongside Ford EcoSport and Renault Debut – immediate rivals! The ix25 concept made its world debut at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show while it will be officially introduced to the Chinese market in October. Speaking about the Indian launch, the compact SUV's Indian debut is expected in the first half of next year.

What to expect

  • The SUV features Hyundai second iteration of the Fluidic design philosophy – Fluidic sculpture 2.0; making it to borrow styling cues from the Elite i20 and Santa-Fe.
  • Expect Day-time-running-LEDs and LED taillamps similar to the Elite i20 along with the diamond-cut alloys which is very much common on Hyundai's nowadays.
  • Unlike the EcoSport, it does not sport a space wheel on the boot-lid. Moreover, like the Duster (4.3m) the ix25 is also slightly over 4m (4.2m as for the Chinese market).
  • The interiors of the baby Santa-Fe are similar to its big brother Santa-Fe, goodies on board will be similar to the new Elite i20.
  • For Indian market, under hood details  are expected to be i20 borrowed diesel .i.e. the 1.4 liter CRDI that produces 88.8bhp (90PS) of max power and 220Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a six speed manual transmission. On the petrol front, we can expect Verna's 1.4 or 1.6 liter petrol.
  • Just like its rivals, the compact SUV will sport a front-wheel-drive setup; reportedly a 4WD version is also on cards.

This recent spy shot from China reveals that the compact SUV adorns premium features and inherited those meaner looks from its big-brother Santa-Fe. Features like day-time-running-LEDs, projector headlamps, LED taillamps are still absent in its segment! Making it a premium product compared to its major competitor, moreover, expect the interiors to be heavily loaded as this is a Hyundai! Its major rivals include, Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Mahindra Scorpio and Tata Safari Storme. But things does not end here, Mahindra Scorpio and Safari Storme both are getting facelifts this festive season. While the Duster facelift is also likely on cards this year though the 4WD version is launching next month with some major tweaks inside-out.
Adding to it, by the time Hyundai launches this SUV, Ford might also introduce facelifted version of its top-selling product – EcoSport! As by then, EcoSport would be two years old (launched in June 2013). Just like the Fiesta, the facelifted version of EcoSport
